Our in-depth training courses put you in the
operators seat to an exciting career as a heavy equipment operator. You will receive over 240 hours of theory and practical training and will learn how to safely operate a bulldozer, backhoe/loader, excavator and a compactor. With only 5 students per class, you receive the best hands-on training!

1. In-class theory (42 hours)
- Orientation to the trade
- Identification of heavy equipment
- Personal safety and construction site safety
- Equipment maintenance and inspection
- Hazard assessment
- Volume calculations
- Site preparation
- Introduction to blueprints
- Soil assessment
- Trench digging and shoring
- Grade checking
- Basic rigging
- WHMIS
- First-aid and fire extinguisher training
- Basic operation of the equipment
2. In-vehicle Operation Training
- Perform pre-operational checks
- Basic maintenance
- Proper use of hydraulics
- Drive, turn and back the equipment
- Safe removal of material
- Rig and hoist materials
- Safely trench and shore the trench
- Assess grades
- Calculate load volumes and weights
- Running commentary skills
- Perform site preparation

You will be trained to operate industry standard heavy equipment. This includes:
- Excavator
- Backhoe/loader
- Bulldozer
- Compactor
These pieces are the most common types of heavy equipment used on a construction site.
This program is approved as a vocational program under the Private Career Colleges Act, 2005.
